[Movies] David Goyer Talks Ghost Rider 2
Posted by Larry Csonka on 11.04.2009

- MTV recently spoke with David Goyer about Ghost Rider 2, here are the highlights…

Is It A Reboot: "It's not exactly a reboot," said Goyer, who's currently hard at work on his "FlashForward" television series. "I hate to say it's more realistic, because he's got a flaming skull for a head, but it's a bit more stripped down and darker. It's definitely changing tone. What 'Casino Royale' was to the Bond movies, hopefully this will be to 'Ghost Rider.'"

When Does The Story Take Place?: "This story picks up eight years after the first film," said Goyer. "You don't have to have seen the first film. It doesn't contradict anything that happened in the first film, but we're pretending that our audience hasn't seen the first film. It's as if you took that same character where things ended in the first film and then picked it up eight years later—he's just in a much darker, existential place."

I love comic books, but who cares...

So you'll fuck it up?

Ghost Rider is a concept and character that seems real hard to make work in live action. I didn't hate the first movie, and I thought Rider himself looked pretty cool. But it was certainly a bland film. Plus Cage and Mendes aren't exactly believable as characters of the same age.
Maybe Ghost Rider as adult-orientated animation, like the old Spawn series, would be the most logical way to do the next project.

Did you just say Casino Royale was bad? What universe did you escape to come to ours? I must close that inter-dimensional portal before any more of your type escape through.

So is Ghost Rider going to talk more and have less action.
Cause that was Casino Royale about. It was good, though.
